Penicillin-Streptomycin (Double Antibiotic), 100X

This product is a penicillin-streptomycin solution specifically formulated for cell culture, prepared with high-purity penicillin and streptomycin sulfate. It is a common antibiotic additive used to prevent bacterial contamination during cell culture.

Penicillin inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis. Its mechanism involves directly disrupting cell wall transpeptidation and indirectly altering cell wall structure by triggering enzyme release. Streptomycin binds to the 3 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and effectively suppressing the proliferation of Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria. When used together, they exert a synergistic antibacterial effect, effectively preventing contamination risks in most bacterial cell culture systems. For cell culture applications, the recommended working concentrations are penicillin at 100 units/mL and streptomycin at 0.1 mg/mL. This is achieved by diluting the stock solution 100-fold; each 100 mL vial of concentrated solution can prepare 10 L of working cell culture medium.
